Pirate baseball team in state tourney final four

To play Wednesday in Springfield

The Norwood Pirate baseball team will face Sturgeon in the semi-final round of the Class 1 State Baseball Tournament to be played on Wednesday at Meador Park in Springfield starting at 1 p.m..

Norwood opened the state tournament with wins over Wheaton and Weaublau.

The Pirates had a 7-6 extra innings win over Wheaton.

Cody Hull led off the game with a triple and would score on an error which allowed J.D. Chadwell to reach. Riley Jenkins would walk. Chadwell scored on a Dakota Potter single, and Jenkins would score on a fielder’s choice.

Wheaton came back in the bottom of the first with two of their own runs.

Norwood scored another run in the second when Hull doubled and scored on a Chadwell single. The fifth Pirate run scored in the fourth when Hull again doubled and came home on a Chadwell single.

Wheaton tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with three runs. They took the lead in the fifth with a single run.

Norwood tied the came in the seventh. Brad Lachney reached on an error, stole a base and scored on a Potter single.

Neither team could score until the 11th inning when Hull singled and moved to second on a Chadwell walk. Hull would come home on a Lachney single.

Riley Jenkins started the game on the mound for the Pirates and went five innings. Cody Hull took over in the sixth and went the final six innings to collect the win.

The Pirates had an easier time in their second game when they downed Weaubleau, 11-1, in five innings. Zane Tate went the distance on the mound for the Pirates.

Norwood opened its scoring in the first inning. Hull was hit by a pitch, and Chadwell singled. They both moved up on steals and came home on a Jenkins double. Brad Lachney reached on an error and Tate walked. They would both come home on a McIntosh single and error by the left fielder.

Weaubleau scored its only run in the second. The Pirates got the run back in their half of the inning when Chadwell singled and scored on an error.

Norwood scored the rest of their runs in the third inning. Ryan Forrest singled and Tate and Taylor Bradshaw walked. Two runs would score on a Chadwell double. Jenkins doubled in a third run and scored on a Lachney triple.
