The Mountain Grove Panthers wrapped up their South Central Association play with a 46-0 win over Thayer.

The Panthers will host Warsaw in district play on Friday at 7 p.m. Warsaw has a 2-7 record coming into the game.  With a win Friday, Mountain Grove would face the winner of the St. James/Salem game. Ava faces Buffalo on Friday and the winner of the game would face the winner of the Osage and Springfield Catholic contest the following week.

With less than one minute off the clock the Panthers scored their first touchdown and a six yard run by Jacob Mitchell. The touchdown was set up when Trystan Short returned the kickoff 45 yards to the Thayer 36. A 30 yard pass from Johnny Healy to Trey Dixson put the ball on the six yard line. The Panthers extra point attempt was blocked.

On Thayer’s first possession Blaine Halford intercepted a pass and the Panthers took over on the Thayer 32. Mountain Grove was unable to move the ball and turned the ball over to Thayer on the Bobcat 29.

But Thayer also could not move the ball and after the Panthers returned a punt to the Thayer 37, Mountain Grove used six plays to score their second touchdown on a Healy 15 yard run. The two point conversion attempt failed.

The Panthers stretched the score to 20-0 on their next possession. Included in the drive was a 22 yard completion to Andy Amos and a 30 yard touchdown run by Short. Short also tacked on the two point conversion.

Late in the second quarter the Panthers would put together a 98 yard 13 play drive which was capped off by a 22 yard touchdown pass from Healy to Jamison Cain. The two point conversion failed and the Panthers had a 26-0 lead going into halftime.

Neither team was able to score in the third quarter, but four plays into the final period Healy carried in from five yards to give the Panthers a 32 point lead.

Healy would score another rushing touchdown, Dixson would catch a touchdown pass and Mitchell would add two extra point kicks to round out the Panther scoring.
