Panthers fall to Clever at Blue & Gold Tourney

The Mountain Grove Panthers fell to Clever in the third place game at the Greenwood Blue & Gold Tournament, 64-58.

The teams traded leads throughout the first half. The Panthers held an 8-7 lead after one quarter of play and were up 22-27 at halftime. The five point halftime margin was the largest lead of any team in the half.

Clever would come back to tie the game at 32 with 4:25 to play in the third period, but a Brock Coffman score would immediately put the Panthers back on top. Clever would again tie the game at 36 and on the next play took a three-point lead. Clever held a 41-10 lead at the end of the third period.

Early in the fourth the Panthers would tie the game and would take the lead on their next possession and hold the lead until 1:22 remained in the game. The Panthers were unable to recapture the lead.

D.J. McNew led the scoring for the Panthers with 23. Carter Otwell was also in double figures with 10. Thomas Clifton and Treye Collins had 8; Brock Coffman and Cade Coffman, 4; and Haydn Marah, 1.
