The Mountain Grove Panthers picked up their second win of the season with a 30-19 victory over Cassville.

Mountain Grove put the first points on the scoreboard on their first possession when  they drove 77 yards with Seth Akers pulling in a 34 yard touchdown pass. Johnny Healy ran in the two point conversion.

Cassville was able to come back on three plays to score their first touchdown of the game. A Panther onside attempt didn’t travel 10 yards and Cassville took possession on the Panther 46. The Cassville quarterback kept the ball on all three plays and scored on a seven yard touchdown run. Cassville kicked the extra point to pull within one.

Cassville would score on a 22 yard rushing touchdown with just under 20 seconds remaining in the first quarter, but failed on the conversion attempt and took a 13-8 lead.

Mountain Grove would give the ball back to the Wildcats on a fumble on the Cassville 13 yard line. The Wildcats would drive to the Panther 36 before turning the ball over on downs.

The Panthers would soon recover the lead when Trystan Short went 60 yards for a touchdown and Healy would again add the two point conversion.

Mountain Grove would recover a fumble on the following kickoff, but turned the ball back over to Cassville on downs on the Cassville 25. The Wildcats couldn’t move the ball and a punt snap over the punters head resulted in a safety and an 18-13 Panther lead at halftime.

Cassville would take the second half opening kick off and score on a 60 yard rushing touchdown. This would be their final score of the game.

On Mountain Grove’s next possession the Panthers added six more when Blaine Halford pulled in a Healy pass for a 38 yard touchdown. The Panthers failed on the two point conversion.

The final Panther score came on the first play of the fourth quarter. On that possession, Mountain Grove had previously put the ball in the end zone twice only to have penalties bring the ball back, but Healy was able to score the Panthers last touchdown on a 20 yard run.

Healy went 7 for 8 in the game with 189 yards. Halford also had a completion for 15 yards.

Healy also led the Panther rushers with 142 yards on 29 carries. Short had 86 yards on 14 carries; Jacob Mitchell 38 yards on 9 carries; Cory Allen, 35 yards on two carries and Halford had one carry for 14 yards. Halford also had two receptions for 106 yards.

The Panthers will travel to Ava Friday to open conference play.
