Norwood Lady Pirates take wins from Gainesville, Ava

The Norwood Lady Pirates shut out Gainesville and topped Ava, 14-4, but fell in three other contests last week.

Norwood took the Gainesville game in six innings, 11-0.

The Lady Pirates put four runs on the scoreboard in the first inning with just one hit. Melody Campbell singled to put the first Norwood runner on base, but with two hit batters, a walk and three wild pitches, the Lady Pirates took a 4-0 lead.

Norwood added another run in the second. With the bases full from walks, Cherokee McGraw was hit by a pitch forcing home the run. The sixth Lady Pirate run scored in the fourth when Jenna Ogletree singled and scored on a Cherokee McGraw single.

Norwood added three in the fifth to go up 9-0. Emma McIntosh doubled. Alyssa Wilson followed up with a single. A Madison Crain single scored McIntosh. Campbell would single scoring Wilson. Ogletree was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. With two outs Cherokee McGraw singled scoring Crain.

The final Norwood runs of the game came in the sixth. Chloe Crain led off with a walk and would score following two groundouts. Madison Crain and Campbell singled. Ogletree was hit by another pitch loading the bases. A Cheyenne McGraw single would score Crain.

Norwood took the early lead in the contest with Ava scoring three in the first. Madison Crain walked and Campbell followed with a bunt single which saw Crain move all the way around to third. With Campbell stealing second, Crain scored on an error by the catcher. Ogletree homered scoring two. Norwood added another run in the second. Wilson would reach on an error and moved to third on a Madison Crain single. Wilson would later steal home.

Three more Lady Pirate runs scored in the third. With two walks and a hit batter loading the bases, Cherokee McGraw singled scoring two runs. McIntosh singled in two more runs.

Ava scored its four runs in the bottom of the third.

Five Lady Pirate runs came home in the fifth. Cherokee McGraw walked and McIntosh would double. Emma Nelson singled driving in McGraw. A Wilson single scored McIntosh. Madison Crain singled scoring Nelson and Wilson would also score on an Ava error. Ogletree singled scoring Crain.

The final two Norwood runs were scored in the sixth. McIntosh walked and scored on a Madison Crain triple, and Campbell singled scoring Crain.

The Lady Pirates collected only one hit in a 7-0 loss to West Plains.

West Plains scored three runs in the first and added single runs in the second and sixth and two in the fourth.

Norwood fell to Pleasant Hope, 10-2.

Pleasant Hope had scored three in the first inning and Norwood came back with one in their half of the inning. Madison Crain singled and scored on an error after having stolen second and third.

Trailing 5-1, the Lady Pirates scored their second run in the fourth. Nelson walked and would later score on a fielders choice. Norwood fell to Hartville, 9-7.

Norwood held a 7-2 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning before Hartville scored four to pull within one. Hartville added another three in the sixth to take the win.

Norwood did pick up 10 hits in the game, including a three hit effort by McIntosh. McIntosh also had the only Norwood extra base hit with a double.
