Panthers split two in first games of Blue & Gold

Panthers rebound from opening round loss to West Plains in Blue and Gold Tournament, and down Buffalo, 75-15. Mountain Grove faced Fair Grove Monday evening.

The Panthers had fallen to the West Plains Zizzers in the opening round, 70-53.

Mountain Grove fell behind 18-11 after one quarter of play. Seven of the Zizzers 18 points in the period came from the free-throw line.

The Panthers came back in the second quarter and pulled within three, 26-23, before West Plains went on a 12-4 run to finish out the half. Mountain Grove were again sending Zizzers to the free-throw line and West Plains connected on nine attempts in the second period.

In the third period, when the Zizzers scored no points from the free-throw line, Mountain Grove played almost even being outscored by one, 14-13.

The final quarter saw West Plains outscore the Panthers, 17-13.

Alex Moore led the Panthers scoring in the game with 16.

D. J. McNew had 12; Treye Collins, 10; and Thomas Clifton, Carter Otwell and Brock Coffman, 5.

Mountain Grove ran away from Buffalo in the first quarter, and continued putting distance between them throughout the game taking a 75-15 win. Ten Panthers put points on the scoreboard.

Mountain Grove was up 29-5 after one quarter of play and held an 40-8 halftime lead.

The score was 66-14 after three quarters of play.

Moore again led the scoring with 13. McNew had 12; Clifton, 10; Otwell, 8; Brock Coffman and Easton Collins, 7; Cade Coffman, 5; Jacob Mitchell, 4; Walker Shannon, 3; and Haydn Marah, 1.
