Panthers keep record perfect with wins over Hartville, Gainesville

The Mountain Grove Panthers took wins from Hartville and Gainesville to improve their record to 5-0.

The Panthers defeated Hartville, 9-2.

Hartville took the lead with one run in the first.

Mountain Grove put six runs on the scoreboard in the second inning. Garrett Newberry was hit by a pitch and Cory Allen walked. Brock Coffman drove in two runs with a double. Austin Foster walked. Blaine Halford singled home a run and D.J. McNew reached on an error. Jacob Mitchell would walk and Treye Collins drove in a run with a single. Newberry drove in the final run with a sacrifice fly.

The Panthers added another two runs in the fourth. McNew and Mitchell were hit by pitches. Newberry drove in a run with a single and Coffman doubled home another run.

Both teams scored single runs in the seventh. Mountain Grove scored when Coffman picked up his third double of the game and was moved up and scored on sacrifice flys.

Alex Moore pitched the first four innings and picked up 10 strikeouts, seven walks and allowed three hits. McNew finished out the game with five strikeouts and allowed three hits.

The Panthers shutout Gainesville, 7-0.

Newberry threw the whole game and collected 11 strikeouts and walked one batter. He allowed two hits.

Mountain Grove opened with one run in the first when Halford reached on an error. McNew moved him up with a single. Coffman singled Halford home.

Three Panthers scored in the third. McNew singled and Coffman drove him home with a double. A Collins home-run cleared the bases. Mountain Grove scored again in the fourth when McNew again singled and scored on a Coffman single.

The final two Mountain Grove runs scored in the sixth when McNew singled and Mitchell reached on an error and Coffman doubled them home.

Junior Varsity

The Panther junior varsity also took wins from Hartville and Gainesville.

Mountain Grove defeated Hartville, 7-2.

Hartville took a one run lead in the first. The Panthers tied the game in the second when  Conner McNew reached on an error and later scored on a fielder’s choice.

Mountain Grove went on top in the third. Hayden Newberry singled and scored on an Austin Williams triple. Williams would score on a sacrifice fly by Cade Coffman.

Three Panther runners came home in the fourth. Logan Sheppard singled and Newberry reached on an error. They both stole a base and came home on a Williams double. Williams would later score on a sacrifice fly.

The final Panther run scored in the fifth when Raliegh Wakefield walked. A ground-out and walk moved the runner over and scored on a sacrifice ground-out.

Hartville had scored their second run in their half of the fifth.

The Panthers defeated Gainesville, 10-4.

Gainesville scored two in the first to take the lead. Mountain Grove came back with one run when Sheppard singled and scored on a sacrifice fly.

Gainesville added another run in the second, but the Panthers came back with two runs in their half of the inning to tie the game. Bailey Linton singled and Conner McNew reached on an error. They would both later score with out the benefit of a hit.

In the top of the fourth inning, Gainesville regained the lead when they scored one run.

Mountain Grove responded with seven runs in their half of the inning.

McNew doubled and Brandon Calhoun and Wakefield walked. Austin Veach reached on a fielder’s choice. Sheppard singled in a run and Newberry pushed home another run with a walk. A Williams sacrifice fly scored another run. Coffman would reach on an error and later score the final Mountain Grove run.
