The Mountain Grove Area Community Foundation hosted its second annual golf tournament and “Sweet Summer Soirée” dinner on Saturday, Aug. 16 at Wedgewood Country Club.  Twenty-four teams played in the 2 person scramble.  “Other than some light rain in the morning, the weather was great and the golfers commented on how much fun they had,” said Jim Gunnels organizer of the tournament.  Winners with pictures will be featured in next week’s paper.

Over 120 attended the evening dinner on the lawn at Wedgwood.  After dining on a meal featuring BBQ pork loin prepared by Ernie Ehlers, the attendees enjoyed the excitement of the drawing for three Bass Pro gift cards followed by a live auction of assorted items including two Big Cedar Lodge Wilderness Club vacation packages.  According to Kim Norris, dinner organizer, “The “Sweet” part of our Summer Soirée this year was a build your own ice cream sundae with all the toppings.  What a sweet, cool ending to a wonderful Foundation event.”

The event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Foundation.  “The proceeds from this event will help us fund grants to area non-profit organizations,” stated David Barbe, MG Area Foundation president.  “We will give out over $10,000 in grants later this fall including continuing to fund our multi-year project of rebuilding the Ina Crandall Park adjacent to the city swimming pool. With continued support like we had for this event, we hope to start construction on that project sometime next year.”

“We want to thank all of our sponsors for this year’s event,” noted Bridget Williams, Foundation Vice-President.  “We can plan a wonderful event, but without our sponsors and participation by all that bought drawing tickets and attended the event, we can’t support the local organizations that make our community a great place to live, work and raise our families.”

The Foundation would like to thank Coach Johnson and the football team for helping set up in the morning and the Williams family for assisting with clean-up after the event.
