Private services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2012, for John Cullen Smith, 78, Willow Springs, Mo.
John “Jay” died at 12:20 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2012, at Willow Care Nursing Home.
Jay was born Nov. 21, 1933, to Charles F. Smith and Myrtle Jewel Smith in Wellington, Texas.
Before his retirement he owned and operated his own semi-truck. He loved the open road. He was a licensed ship captain and visited many a port.
Jay is survived by two sons, Kenneth Jay Smith and wife, Gerrie Sue of Willow Springs, and Richard Kevin Smith of Boston, Mass.
Jay had six grandchildren, Derek Lincoln Smith of Boston, James Bradley Smith and wife Stacy Renee of Mountain Grove, Mo., Shanda Kay Smith-Holt and husband John of Mountain Grove, Brianna Rose Villa-Smith of Willow Springs, and Anna Marie of Modesto, Calif.
Timothy Jay Smith preceded him in death as an infant.
Jay had five great-grandchildren: Trenton, Nathaniel Burke, Kannon James Smith, Brycen Dale Smith, Dillon Ray Holt and Kyson Jay Holt, all of Mountain Grove.
Jay was married to Gladys Alberta Webb Smith Oct. 18, 1989, in Charlton County, Ga. She passed away Aug. 26, 2000, and he never stopped loving her. She was the true love of his life.
His parents, one brother, two wives, and one grandson preceded him in death.
You will forever be missed Grandpa Jay. We all love you!
