Final preparation is underway for  opening of operations at the Wright County Emergency Communications Center on August 17.

The facility is  located at the junction of Wall St. and Bus. Hwy. 60 in Mtn. Grove.

Wright County voters approved a 3/8 cent sales tax in November, 2014,  to fund a 911 emergency phone system. The tax replaced a fee on land line phones.

The Wright County Emergency Services Board of Directors were appointed after the tax was approved  and has been working to develop the system. Jeff Holman serves as Wri-Comm 911 director.

The communications center will have 14 employees including the director, an IT/GIS coordinator and  12 dispatchers.

The dispatchers will work 12-hour shifts and facilities are available at the site to house the personnel on duty during periods of inclement weather. Dispatcher training is currently underway and nearing completion.

The equipment has battery and generator backup systems and will dispatch through 10 towers across the county.

The center will dispatch law enforcement and fire personnel in the county and will transfer ambulance calls on a rotational basis to the Mercy or Texas County Hospital services.

The enhanced 911 facility will be able to locate a caller on a land line or cell phone, but currently will not be able to receive 911 calls as a text communication.

An open house will be held at the facility at a later date.
