From building molecules using marshmallows to paper-airplane aeronautics, students at Mountain Grove Middle School demonstrated their knowledge of scientific principles at the school’s Science Night.

More than 500 adults and students on Tuesday, March 22, walked among displays in the MGMS gym and joined in activities set up in hallways and classrooms.

MGMS Science Night was organized by science teachers Taylor Blankenship and Jessica Schober, and teacher Lori Stenzel, in charge of the school’s parental involvement program.

Science projects developed by 7th and 8th grade students were exhibited in the MGMS gym.

Other events at Science Night included clips from science-related movies, a Van De Graaff electricity generator and a nebula ball.

First place winners in each category were being entered in the Science and Engineering Fair at Missouri State University in Springfield on Tuesday, March 29.

Judging of the MGMS science projects, which included examining each project and interviewing the students, was conducted by community volunteers.  Judges: Jaclyn Williams, Mikaela Byerly, Hannah Kelly, Joe Golden, Doug Jones, Chris Coffman, Kim Ehlers, Melanie Kessler, Dusty Schober, Dustin Hawkins, Mandy Penner and Samantha Morgan.
