Norwood celebrates 36th Annual Farmers Day Saturday, Sept. 24

Norwood will be celebrating its 36th Annual Farmers Day on Saturday, Sept. 24.

The schedule of events will include the following: A 5K Fun Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m. and is sponsored by the Norwood Baptist Church. For information and registration, call 417-746-4655.

There will be a Children’s Parade at 11 a.m. Line-up will be at the Old Hotel next to the railroad tracks at 10:30 a.m. The parade will march to the school. Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded in the following categories: Best Dressed Pet, Decorated Bicycle, Clown, Push/Pull and miscellaneous. No 4-wheelers allowed in this parade. The main parade will begin at 11:15 a.m. Line-up will be at the school starting at 9:30 a.m. Participants are encouraged to dress as Farmers and decorate according to the theme “Farmers Matter.” Cash prizes for floats will be: first, $75; second, $50; third, $25. Plaques and ribbons will be awarded in the following categories: Best Antique Car, Best Antique Tractor, Junior Horseman, Senior Horseman, Horse and Wagon, and Best 4-Wheeler. Awards will be given out at 12:30 p.m. at the City Hall grounds. For more information, call Cristy Holloway at 417-268-5260.

Immediately following the parades, Farmers Day festivities will move to the City Hall grounds. There will be food, game, craft and information booths. Contact Bethanne Grover at 417-349-1663 for booth space and fees. Stephanie Connell will coordinate the school booths.

Entertainment for the day will be Gospel Music from 1 to 3 p.m. This year we are inviting area churches to send soloists and/or groups to sing. Contact Mary Ann Mason at 417-746-4613 to schedule. The late afternoon entertainment will be Country/Western with Terry Kelley and “Route 66.” They will perform from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The Farmers Day committee will be providing a shuttle service. Pickup areas will be announced at a later date. There will also be three separate drawings for prizes and cash.

Following the regular Farmers Day activities, there will be a “Youth for Christ Rally” at 7:30 p.m. sponsored by Union Grove/Caudle Church.
