The Mountain Grove Fire Department responded to a Mountain Grove residence at 707Long St. Sunday morning at 5:45 a.m. for a call of a structure fire with people trapped inside. When the department arrived on scene, one

person, Wanda Street, Mtn. Grove, was on the front porch of the building and a second person, Vina Bass, Hartville, was still in the building, Fire Chief Mark Bushong stated. Fire crews entered the building and found Bass on a bed and removed her from the building. Bass was reported to have been transported

to Texas County Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. She was later transferred to Springfield.

Street was transported to Texas County Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The home received minor fire damage and moderate smoke and heat damage. Bushong stated that the fire appears to have been accidental,

but is continuing the investigation.

There were no injuries to fire crews. During the last week, the department has

responded to four false alarms for controlled burns that were reported as out of control when they were still under control. Bushong asked that if persons are going to have a controlled burn to contact 417-967-5996 and give name, address, and phone number so that if a call comes in reporting a fire in the

area they can be contacted to see if the fire is still under control.
