The Mountain Grove Board of Aldermen approved an ordinance designating Good Friday as an employee holiday.
The 18th Annual Kathy Smith Memorial St. Jude Benefit Trail Ride and Auction was held Sunday, April 26 at the farm of Ernie and Kim Ehlers. There were 145 riders including those on wagons and over $11,100 was raised for the children of St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. The horseback ride was five miles of scenic trails extending over the farms of Ehlers, Dixie Gaddis and Duncan Smith and the wagon trail had two wagons full of participants. Once back at camp, participants were treated to a barbecue dinner served by Holy Cross Lutheran Church youth group, lots of door prizes, and a silent and live auction of donated items from area businesses and supporters under tents provided by David and Cherri Ellis. RaMona Andrus again sponsored the oldest rider award given to Dean Coffman (81) and the youngest rider (wagon) award given to Briley Finch (1). Local childhood cancer survivor and St. Jude Hospital patient, Emma Grace Heppner, made a guest appearance.
U.S. Senator Roy Blunt visited Wright County on Saturday and was a special guest at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home.
The Wright County Emergency Services Board announced that Jeff Holman has been named the new director of Wri-Comm 911.
Roy Blunt, U.S. Senator from Missouri since 2010, is to be the featured speaker at the annual Wright County Lincoln Day on May 2 in Mountain Grove. The event will be held at the high school cafeteria beginning at 6 p.m.
The Mountain Grove R-III School District will offer a summer school program that will run Monday through Friday beginning June 1 and ending June 26. Classes will start at 8 a.m. and end at 3 p.m.
Voters in the Mountain Grove R-3 School District selected Danny Lathrom and Greg Tesch to serve on the school board.
