Edwin Rogers, a dairy farmer from Mountain Grove, Mo., recently represented members of Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. (DFA) on a legislative trip to Washington, D.C. Rogers visited with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to urge their support of dairy policy provisions within S. 3240, the Agriculture Reform, Food and Jobs Act of 2012 (Farm Bill), including key elements of the Dairy Security Act.

Other agenda items covered included the current state of the Missouri dairy industry and the need to pass dairy policy reform that adequately supports dairy farmers during catastrophic times. Rogers met with Sens. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), and Reps. Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.) and Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.)

Congress is currently considering legislation on a variety of issues that impact today’s dairy industry.

This trip allowed Rogers and other DFA members to communicate how these proposals would affect their operations, while reinforcing the value they derive as member- owners of DFA.
