Eighty-six landowners were reimbursed $475,742 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2012. That means that local landowners were able to make improvements to their property and put approximately 75 percent of the cost back in their pockets. The improvements ranged from cross fencing fields, improving grazing efficiency, fencing to exclude cattle from streams and woodland to extensive animal waste systems. Approximately $23 million dollars are appropriated to 114 counties annually through this program, here in Wright County they were able to capture just over 2 percent that.

At the annual meeting in April they celebrated J.D. Hutsell’s years of service to the office and his son David was elected by the residents of the county to take his place on the board. They welcomed David and give a big thank you to all the local board members that work alongside of them to make their success possible.

The staff of SWCD would like to say thank you to the landowners they had the privilege to work with by inviting them to the customer appreciation day on July 20 and ask them to bring a friend who may not be familiar with what they do. If you plan to attend the customer appreciation day they would like to have an RSVP by the July 13. You can take care of that by calling 741-6195 ext. 4. They are gearing up for the next year, if you would like to talk about the possibility of cost sharing on improvements to your property stop by the office at 5220 Hwy. 5, Hartville or give them a call.
