Vanzant Baptist Church, located at the corner of Hwys. 95 and 76, about 12 miles south of Mountain Grove, will celebrate 50 years within its present building, with an old-fashioned Church Homecoming, complete with good fellowship, Gospel singing and dinner-on-the-grounds, Sunday, Sept. 14, beginning at 11 a.m. with the local Gospel group, The McCunes, beginning the event.

For The McCunes’ sisters, Teresa, Toni and Micki, being involved with church activities has been a natural occurrence, since they were born...literally.

Natives of Mountain Grove, they grew up in a pastor’s home and were in church “every time the doors were opened.” At an early age, their parents shared the Love of God and His saving Grace with them. Gospel music is how they share His Message, with us.

Traveling and singing evolved from revival work and all-day sings, to sharing their ministry throughout mid-American churches, fairs and community events.

Following the McCunes, those attending will enjoy a dinner-on-the-grounds, the church providing smoked, pulled-pork (prepared by Steve Moody), side dishes and beverages. If you have a favorite “side” or dessert you’d like to share, just bring it along; additionally, lawn chairs might be helpful, too.

Following dinner, The Harmoniers of Houston, MO will perform around 2 p.m.

Sandy Stow, Duane Sutton, Wilburn Elmore, Omer Edington and Dave Gourley are proud to represent this fine group, organized in 1949.

For many years, The Harmoniers had a weekly radio program on Houston’s KBTC and could be seen on KY3 TV. Reorganizing in 2008, with two original members and other new musicians joining them, they perform music true to the Southern Gospel Quartet sound.

Pastor Roger Flint and those of the Vanzant Baptist Church, want to take this opportunity to invite you to celebrate what God has been doing for them, by sharing September 14th’s fellowship, music and food with you.
