Community Foundation 4th annual golf tourney and ‘Sweet Summer Soirée’ dinner set for Saturday, Aug. 20

The Mountain Grove Area Community Foundation is holding its 4th annual golf tournament and “Sweet Summer Soirée” dinner on Saturday, August 20 at Wedgwood Country Club.  This is the largest event the Foundation sponsors and provides the majority of funds for the Foundation’s grant-making program.  

“The proceeds from this event will help us fund grants to area non-profit organizations,” stated David Barbe, MG Area Foundation president.  “We will give out over $10,000 in grants later this fall including continuing to fund our multi-year project of rebuilding the Ina Crandall Park adjacent to the city swimming pool.

“We will have morning and afternoon sessions beginning with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.,” according to Jim Gunnels, tournament coordinator.  “There will be cash prizes in each flight with first place being $500, prizes for closest to the hole, longest putt made and longest drive, as well as a hole-in-one contest for a Jayco travel trailer valued at $35,000 sponsored by Wehr Ford,” Gunnels noted.  “This tournament is designed to be just as much fun for the non-competitive golfer.  We will have games on many of the holes.   The idea is for folks to come out, have a good time and support the Foundation,” said Gunnels.  Tournament sponsorships that include golf registration and dinner tables are still available to businesses or individuals.  Contact Jim Gunnels at Community First Bank, 926-3820, or any Foundation Board member for more information or to register for the tournament.

The “Sweet Summer Soirée” dinner has been very popular with over 120 attending last year. Dinner will again feature BBQ pork loin prepared on site by Ernie Ehlers and Steve Moody, according to dinner organizer, Kim Norris.  

“Everyone really enjoyed the dinner last year.  Again this year, dinner will be followed by a drawing for numerous gifts, a live auction of larger items including Cardinals and Royals baseball tickets and a Big Cedar Lodge Wilderness Club vacation package,” said Norris.   The drawing will also be held that evening for the Beretta Px4 Storm .40 cal semi-auto pistol.  Tickets for a chance to win the pistol are $5 each or 5 for $20.  Dinner tickets are $25 each.  Both can be purchased from any Foundation Board member.

“We want to thank those who have already committed to be sponsors for this year’s event,” noted Bridget Williams, Foundation Vice-President.  “We can plan a wonderful event, but without our sponsors, golfers and dinner guests, we can’t support the local organizations that make our community a great place to live, work and raise our families.”
