Mountain Grove Arts Council members have been busily preparing for exhibitions by area artists and photographers to be held at the Arts and History Center (old rock jail) on Saturday, July 5. The event will feature works of photographer/biographer Joyce McMurtrey who is receiving regional acclaim for her Ozark Women project. She has had showings in West Plains and Springfield that received positive coverage in both city newspapers. The number of her subjects has now reached over 60 and she continues to add to her collection as other women are brought into the widening circle of inclusion. The historical content accompanying photographs is an important record of the lives and contributions by women to the unique Ozark culture.

In addition to the McMurtrey display, the husband and wife team of Jimmie and Sharon Marler of Hartville, will display several pieces of scratch art, paintings and photographs. The Marlers are well known for their work and many honors received at art shows throughout the state.

Ann Altis of Mountain Grove is another exhibitor with several of her paintings on display. Twin sisters, Kayla and Kara Townsend of Hartville who recently won accolades at the Tri-County Fair for their art work and photography will also be participating.

The Arts and History Center, located on East First Street, one block from the square, will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission is free.
